Diligence pays off long-term, laziness right away. Even so, it makes sense to invest in the future at crucial moments.
Humans are lazy because this has been proven itself over the course of evolution. The less energy we consume, the less food we need to find, which in extreme cases can be a matter of life and death. Nowadays, however, there is no longer a shortage of food in our country. On the contrary, people usually eat too much and are getting fatter and fatter. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, we avoid exercise and give in to idleness on a daily basis. Wherever we walk and stand, we unsuspectingly drop our garbage, such as cigarette butts, which, casually flicked onto the ground, contaminate many liters of groundwater with the pollutants they contain. Although smokers should know better, they simply continue to do so because disposing of the litter is too much trouble. After a short time, this becomes a habit and we no longer notice it. This is not an isolated case …
… as we can also see when dealing with our music system. It’s only the blink of an eye from “It can stay like this for now” to habit, and so we accept solutions to problems that never were against our better judgment, for example by placing the new record player on the shaky table next to the loudspeaker. That must be enough for a first impression, and it doesn’t even look too bad. But nothing is more tenacious than a makeshift solution, and so the record player remains in its new place.
The same applies to the speaker cable, which has been routed through behind the baseboard many years ago for aesthetic reasons, where it has been quietly oxidizing ever since. Strangely enough, however, the obvious idea of looking for a better solution never occurred to anyone, even though the hi-fi gear has experienced significant upgrades in the same time. Once a bad habit has taken root, the negative effects on sound quality can drive you nuts. Then we start feverishly searching for accessories that will beam us back into our comfort zone. The question of a suitable cable is a popular one, but no cable in the world can fix the mess that ill-considered spontaneous decisions have caused in the past. The only thing that can help is researching the causes, getting to the root of the problem and eliminating it. After that, toying with cables makes sense again, but no earlier.
